A centrifuge rotor has a moment of inertia of 3.20 10-2 kg·m2. How much energy is required to bring it from rest to 8000 rpm?

  • 8000 rpm = 8000*2pi/60 rad/sec = 837.8 rad/sec = angular speed w

Energy required = increase in KE

    = 0.5*I*w^2

    = 0.5*3.2*10^-2*(837.8)^2 J

    = 11230 J

  • Centrifuge Rotor
