I would definitely say physiological, because food is a necessity for the body to survive. If the dog is starving, he will need the food, so he will therefore protect it. However, things like affection are emotional needs, such as Harlow’s monkeys. So you see the difference – he needs the food to survive, so it is a biological (I.e physiological) need.
