  (i hated and will never understand the hype over the descent and 28 days/weeks later. i basically don’t like older horror movies as well.)

  i cant remember the year of some of them on the list but majority are recent films that i did like. only one was from the 90’s which is misery. i highlighted with *** the movies that belong to my favorite list which i’ve seen over and over again.

  Mermaid Chronicles Part 1: She Creature (2001 TV movie)

  aka She Creature (not to be confused with the b&w film)

  IMDb synopsis:

  A carnival worker(Rufus Sewell) abducts a mermaid (Rya Kihlstedt) in Ireland, circa 1900, and decides to transport her to America, not telling his wife (Carla Gugino) that their treasure is a stolen one, with the theft resulting in death. As their ship loses its way and heads towards the legendary Forbidden Islands, the mermaid begins to display her deadly side.

  Unfortunately, there is no sequel.

  NOTE: “Night Tide” is a good suggestion, as it has some great surrealistic images. It stars a very young Dennis Hopper. Otherwise, fierce mermaids are limited to that one Harry Potter movie.

  “The Seventh Stream” is about a selkie, a being which looks like a human (a woman, in this instance) once the hide is doffed. Whomever possesses the hide has control of the selkie. “The Secret of Roan Inish” also is based on the legend of the selkie.

• I would suggest, Lady in the Water, She Creature: Mermaid Chronicles Part 1, and Mamula (aka. Nymph or Killer Mermaid)

• I dunno why people keep suggesting “Lady in the Water.” It’s actually quite the light, lovely fantasy film. It has a scary creature IN it, but that’s not what the film is really about. Think.. a vibe more like “Splash,” with a predatory antagonist that ups the danger factor to keep tension in the film. Otherwise, it’s largely a beautiful, rather mystical story. 🙂 It’s just got a big bogey at one part to keep things interesting. 🙂

  As for other horror mer flicks- Killer Mermaid! It’s a fun one! 🙂
