As a kid, were you ever told by one of your parents or by one of your teachers: “Carry on crying and I’ll give you something to cry about!”?

• oh, yes.  it was quite common when I was growing up

• No. And my parents never hit us- nor did they threaten to. Perhaps that’s why we all grew up to be productive adults and good citizens. 

• Oh yeah, I heard a lot of that.
