  • He left in a fiery chariot. If you mean position as God’s servant, that Elisha took his place.

  • In a fiery chariot. Did Elijah actually go into the heavens of God? Or did he die?

We have the words of God’s greatest prophet, Jesus Christ, who resided in the heavens with his Father for untold centuries prior to his coming to earth. He said: “No man has ascended into heaven but he that descended from heaven, the Son of man.” (John 3:13) Speaking of John the Baptist, Jesus said: “Among those born of women there has not been raised up a greater than John the Baptist; but a person that is a lesser one in the kingdom of the heavens is greater than he is.” (Matt. 11:11) Accordingly, Elijah, not being greater than John, could not be in heaven.

What, then, were the “heavens” into which Elijah was taken by the windstorm? These were the physical heavens, the atmosphere, the “expanse,” also called “Heaven” at Genesis 1:6-8. A windstorm could exist only in this atmospheric expanse, not in the spirit realm of Jehovah’s heavenly presence. Elijah was carried up out of Elisha’s sight by the windstorm.

The Bible does not say that Elijah died on that occasion. As a matter of fact, Elijah was still alive and active as a prophet at least five years later, apparently over in the territory of Judah. The Bible tells us: “Eventually there came a writing to [Jehoram, king of Judah] from Elijah the prophet.” This letter foretold the sickness and death of Jehoram because of his wrong, idolatrous course. (2 Chron. 21:12-15) A further evidence that Elijah did not die at the time of being taken into the “heavens” is that his servant and successor Elisha did not then hold the customary period of mourning for his master.

  • What are you talking about, I’m right here. Oh, you mean Elijah in the bible.

Well, in the Holy Bible in 2 Kings 2:11 it said that there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.

    And Elisha took his place.

Elijah was taken to a secret place to be safe [ from all the trouble and threats against him ], and to write about his work as a prophet and Elisha’s work as a prophet, so he became stationed, and Elisha was in the field. Elijah was taken up in the second year [ of 8 as king], for Jehoram, in Jehoram”s 6th year, he got a letter from Elijah to say that for his cruelty, he had two years of life with a serious gut condition.

    2Ki.2:11,22,23; 2Chr.21:5,12-18;

While in the field after Elijah had been taken up, a mob of 42 youths [ age 25 or so ], was yelling for Elisha to go up [ meaning as Elijah had ], after all the threat to Elijah, this mob was wiped out by two she bears, so Elisha could be safe in the field.

  • They don’t come back and get reborn into another body. Maybe it is one in the order of. They more than likely return on the clouds with Jesus. Their will be two more prophets who appear during the tribulation, those anointed to stand beside and before the lord of all the earth. Also, I believe it was his mantle he left with Elisha. Elisha didn’t take his place. He is another child of God like those who receive him as lord and savior. These men are great, but to be great in the kingdom of heaven means to be a servant to everyone else.

  • He was caught up in a chariot of fire. He left his cloak behind for none other than Elisha. I do not agree that he “returned as John the Baptist.” I do believe he will return as a witness during the tribulation POSSIBLY. Very interesting Swindled, and first time I heard that one, but it might explain the GREAT LIE.

  • UFO, is What most would call them.

Chariot of Fire is what the Bible calls it.

When they Take Off, they can Accelerate so Fast that they Leave a Whirl-Wind (dust devil) behind it.

I used to Think the “Fire” part was the Propulsion System–then I Remembered Sodom and Gomorah.

Those Chariots can Still “Rain down Fire” (most Powerful Lasers).

    GOD has UFO’s.

    MAN has UFO’s.

    satan has UFO’s.

    GOD has the Best Ones.

  • He was caught up in a fiery chariot. Elisha took over in his place.

  • PENELOPE I am very very impressed you are exactly right. By the way that chariot of fire is what we call a ufo. A description of a ufo is given at the very begining of Ezekiel. But watch out because it is VERY cryptic. God bless you.

  • He returned via the mother ship. His next incarnation was as John the Baptist, so said Jesus.
