A hotel elevator ascends 200m with maximum speed of 5m/s. Its acceleration and deceleration both have a magnitude of 1.0 m/seconds square
How far does the elevator move while accelerating to full speed from rest?
How long does it take to make the complete trip from bottom to top?

time it takes to get to 5 m/s
velocity=accel*time 5m/s= 1m/s/s*time time=5 sec
distance=1/2 a t^2 = 1/2(1) 5^2 = 12.5 m/s
It would take 12.5 meters to go from zero to 5 m/s.
I would assume you need 5 seconds to take it from 0 to 5 m/s and it would take the same amount of time to go from 5 m/s to zero.
that would be 25 meters. for the remaining 175 meters, we find the distance by dividing 175 meters in to 5 m/s;
175 meters/ 5 m/s= 35 seconds
Because it took 5 seconds to accel and decell, then the total time would be;
35 sec+ 5 sec+ 5 sec= 45 sec
