I think I have the answer but I need to know how to set it up correctly…

  • 1 cm = 10 mm… right?

    therefore…

    3.77×10^4 mm³ x (1 cm / 10 mm)³ = 37.7 cm³

it explains the math.. which is called “factor label method” or “dimensional analysis” in some groups.

  • Easiest way to remember is that you move the decimal the unit difference x the power. So it this case, 1 x 3. So the answer is 3.77E1 or 37.7 cm^3.

Another example would be if you were converting the same to m^3 instead. mm to cm to dm to m, so it is a decimal move of 3 x 3 or 9, or 3.77E-5.

    Hope this helps.

  • You know that 1cm/10mm, so cubing that gives a conversion factor of 1cm^3/1000mm^3.

    3.77×10^4mm^3 x 1cm^3/1000mm^3 = 37.7 cm^3
