Monthly if needed, and definitely at the end of a fiscal period.
Definitely NOT daily. Too time consuming, and plus they are generally prepared in order to make adjusting entries for various accruals and expenses such as depreciation that have occurred during the month or fiscal period.
I personally have never prepared one outside of school. But then again, I’ve only done bookkeeping for various small businesses, and I’m aware of what adjustments need to be made. Computer software, for me, pretty much eliminates the need to manually write out the worksheets. I can print a trial balance, see what needs to be adjusted, make the adjustments, and done.
