how to express Calcium (periodic table) as an ionic symbol?

the instructions are weird:

-Write the symbol for the ion of each of the following.

-Express your answer as an ion.

  • Calcium can have a (+1 or +2) charge….so therefore it can be written:

    Ca+ , Ca2+ Only the numbers and + is written smaller in the upper right hand corner.

  • Well since calcium is in group 2, when it becomes an ion is loses it’s 2 outer electrons

    the ion of calcium is Ca 2+
