How to roll in gta 5 ps3?

I am a new player in GTA 5, How do you roll so u can avoid being aimed from guns??

When aiming with a gun, press Square (ps3) and aim to the desired direction i assume its the same for xbox but with a different button than square i hope this helps
While aiming at an enemy, you can press Square and move in the direction you want to roll.
When ur aiming press square for ps3 and whatever is the equivalent for xbox I think y? Like whatever is the left button
