Hi there, my Hitachi television seems to have stopped working, there is no longer the red standby light and it also won’t turn on manually using the button at the front, whilst watching the telly a couple of days ago it turnt itself off and since then no standby light has come back on, even after unplugging it for a day, there was a burning plastic smell coming from the telly after this happened, when I try pressing the button at the front there are no noises from inside the telly, I think the serial number is c32w f523n-311, it’s a pretty old telly lol, could it be completely gone?
Thank you everyone for responding quickly, I’ve checked the fuse by putting in another one but still no joy, I think it’s time for a new telly :/
It is a common problem on these TV’s – it is probably the power supply – i.e. where the power lead goes into the back of the TV there is a circuit board et all – these go quite often.
Some local TV repair places can fix these fairly cheaply – when my one went a couple of years back – it cost £45 for parts and labour.
To be honest, as someone said above – might not be worth the repair – TV’s of that age are notorious for packing up when moved………..treat your self to a new one – you can pick up a nice flat screen HD TV now for a good price
I have had the same problem with a 42″ HItachi plasma TV. It only happens in the Winter when it s cold. I have found that if I turn off the main power and use a hair drier to blow hot air through the metal screen on the back and warm the electronic components around the middle left of the back of the TV, I can get it to turn on. Granted, it s not the perfect solution, I have gotten 5+ years of life out of the TV by doing this.
It takes a little more warming on some days than others. But you ll know it is warm enough when you turn on the main power button on the bottom of the set and hear a click and then a little high-pitched squeal instead of the dreaded second click. Then you can press the On button on the right side of your set or on your remote and get the desired blue light and see the screen come to life.

My HITACHI television will not turn on?

Burning plastic smell means something burned out. You may be lucky if it was the fuse, but fuses don’t really smell like plastic. Repairmen usually don’t repair old tellys because it usually isn’t worth the trouble.
UNPLUG it NOW! Any time you smell burning, immediately unplug the unit in question & do not plug it back in until you’ve consulted a professional
check all the leads are plugged in and check the manual..thing:L
if it doesn’t work ring where you got it from and tell them..
also when you try and turn it on .. is there any lights on it?xx
Check the fuse in the plug has not blown
