What does that mean? In this lesson we are discussing:
Hace + (time period) + que + present tense of verb = an indication of how long something has been happening
Hace + (time period) + que + preterite tense of verb = an indication of how long ago something happened

–Hace diez años. = Ten years ago. (simple answer)
–Diez años atrás. = Ten years ago. (simple answer)
–Estuve en escuela primaria diez años atrás. = I was in elementary school ten years ago.
