US Military Pay Chart 2024
Each year, the US Military pay charts undergo changes, and for the upcoming year 2024, there will be a 5.2% increase compared to the previous year. The National Defense Authorization Act for 2024, which has been approved by the House of Representatives, includes a 5.2% pay rise for service members. This pay rise is the highest so far and is part of the Biden administration’s efforts to support the federal workforce through the budget.
However, it is important to note that the pay rise mentioned in the National Defense Authorization Act for 2024 is not official until it is approved by both the U.S. House and U.S. Senate and receives final approval from the president.
Military Pay Chart 2024
As of now, there is no enacted defense funding bill for 2024, and there is no new budget. Congress has approved a temporary funding measure with an amended end date of November 17, 2024. If no budget is legislated, the government will shut down. However, even if a defense spending plan is ratified, but no budget is approved, the pay, BAH, and other benefit rate hikes for the USA military will still go into effect.

US Military Pay Chart by Ranks
The basic pay for service members depends on their rank and the duration of their service. For example, an enlisted service member with a payscale of E-1 will receive an estimated $1,917.63 monthly as basic pay, while a senior enlisted service member with a paygrade of E-6 and more than 10 years of service will receive an estimated $4,171.03 per month. Officers receive higher pay compared to enlisted service members. In 2024, a new officer’s basic pay starts at an estimated $3,637.26, while a senior officer with a pay grade of O-4 and more than 10 years of service will receive an estimated $8,254.82 per month.

The Department of Defense will distribute this funding among its six sub-components. Although the bill is yet to be approved, if the proposed pay rise becomes applicable, the monthly base pay would be as follows:
$2,600.60 for an E-1 with a minimum of 4 months of service
$2,799.20 for an E-2
$2,900.90 to $3,050.60 for an E-3, depending on years of service
$3,010.50 to $3,260.30 for an E-4, depending on years of service
$3,100.30 to $3,250.20 for an E-5, based on years of service
$3,210 for an E-6 with less than 2 years of service
The proposed pay scale aligns with a Republican proposal to ensure that active service members earn a minimum of $31,200 annually or $15 per hour for a 40-hour workweek.
