What does com si com sa mean? (I’m certain that I didn’t spell that right.)?

I work in retail and actually know a lot of Spanish. However, the other night someone came thru my line and said something like “com si, com sa.” I tried to spell that somehow like it would be with spanish sounds. Does anyone know what this means?

  • It’s French, not Spanish and it means, ‘ so-so ‘.

  • Com Si Com Sa

  • Com Se Com Sa

  • This expression indicates the speaker is having trouble attempting to pick between two alternatives. Each choice offers a different set of advantages causing the difficult decision. In the retail store, it could be that the customer was trying to pick between two items. Or maybe they were trying to decide whether to stay in the long line or come back another day. People use this French phrase when they are on the horns of a dilemma and they could go either way.

There is a hand gesture that means exactly the same thing. Spread your fingers widely and rock your hand back and forth between two angles, simulating the motion of a balance scale drifting between the two positions. It is common to use that gesture while lamenting, “comme ci, comme ca.”

  • it’s so so or a little of this and a little of that. Used it when living in Zaire (Belgium French). American equivalent now is ‘whatever’ lol

  • It means, “You win some, you lose some!”, an expression of resignation. You must have had a frustrated customer in some respect. Waiting too long in line?

  • comme ci, comme ca

    actually comme ceci, comme cela

(Like this like that, sort of the French equivalent of Spanish asi asi, so so….)

  • Mickey D’s answer is dead on. I just want to congratulate you on taking the trouble to solve your puzzle. As they say, the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked.

  • comme ci comme ca is actually french for something like “okay”

  • it means so-so, half good, half bad.
