While reading Truman Capote’s “In Cold Blood” I came across the phrase “Spartan Breakfast.” I googled it, not knowing what it was, and can’t seem to find a defintion.
What does Spartan Breakfast mean?

a very small breakfast….perhaps just a glass of orange juice.

2 possibilities:
1. One of the definitions for ‘spartan’ in the dictionary: Simple, frugal, or austere: a Spartan diet; a spartan lifestyle.
So, a very simple breakfast. Eggs and toast. Or plain oatmeal, for example.
2. If you live near Michigan State University, whose mascot are the Spartans, it might be the ‘Spartan Breakfast’ listed in the KC’s restaurant menu.
Ironically, according to the menu listing, there is nothing austere or simple about their Spartan Breakfast. ?

It’s when you go to Denny’s. Because every time I go to Denny’s, it’s been like dining in Hell.
