what is canola spread ??

ive been given a recipe off a mate in australia and canola spread is part of the recipe. if it cant be bought in england, what is it like?, is it similar to jam, cheese,peanut butter lol any help will be most gratefully recieved

  • Canola is a plant grown here in Aussie so that the seeds can be crushed for the oil this is then processed into a substance not unlike butter called Margarine and can be used in most cases as a substitute for butter. It is promoted as a healthier change from butter. Also in some places here it is being used as a diesel substitute in trucks and in this case it is called BioDiesel..

  • It IS like margarine, but made from CANOLA oil – not olive oil as one answer suggested.

    You can likely use a 70% vegetable oil base spread as a substitute.

Further, substituting oil for solid fats reduces the quantity of oil by 20 percent which in turn reduces total fat-intake!     250 mL (1 cup) to 175 mL (3/4 cup)

    175 mL (3/4 cup) to 150 mL (2/3 cup)

    50 mL (1/4 cup) to 45 mL (3 tbsp.)

    To substitute Canola Oil for melted hard fat: reduce the amount of oil by 20 percent if the recipe calls for over 1/4 cup of solid fat.

    All oils eventually change flavor when exposed to light, heat and air. For maximum shelf-life (up to one year) store Canola Oil in a tightly covered container in a cool, dark place. Only flavored and unrefined oil need be refrigerated.

  • Why would you even think a paper towel would be acceptable? Pick the skillet up by the handle, after pouring in the oil, and tilt it around until the oil has spread to the entire surface.
