What the heck does “Watashi wa shinen, shinenzu!” mean in Japanese?

It bugs me, to ask why is that I watched the famous moment on the F-Zero anime when Captain Falcon sacrifices himself to kill his nemesis using the famous Falcon Punch. He says “Watashi wa shinen… shinenzu!” before he dies. What the heck does that mean? “I will not die… YOU WILL!” or something like that?

  • It is not shinen, but shinan.

It is not zu, but zo.

Watashi wa = I (plus topic marker ‘wa’)

‘Shinan’ is the abbreviation of shinanai (not to die).

Zo puts emphasis on the verb shinanai.

So transferred into written Japanese, the sentence goes:

    Watashi wa shinanai zo.

    Which is shortened to:

    Watashi wa shinan zo.

It means (as has been said already):

    I won’t die.
