  • You shouldn’t have to provide it. Forms P46 are issued to employers by HMRC. Employer should complete main part of form, ask you tosign it to say that it is your only or main job, and tick any relevant boxes.

Your employer can either download, or get forms from employer’s stationery supplies at tax office.

It should be submitted to tax office by new employer, so give completed form back to him. The information you have put thereon will tell him what tax deductions he wll need to make from you. Location of residence or work not relevant to people on PAYE, as your tax affairs dealt with by employer’s tax office. Employer will give you name, address and reference number in case you have further queries.

  • Your employer should provide it. They should print it off, or call HMRC Employers Orderline 0845 7 646 646, or they can order it online http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/employers/orderline.htm

If you don’t think they will provide it (like they should do!), you could call your tax office & explain, or go into your nearest tax office & ask for one, or print it off at your local library.

  • Your local Tax Office will definately have one, not sure about the Post Office – they used to have them, not sure if they still do though
