Which best describes Henry David Thoreau’s writing style? humorous whimsical authoritarian conversational?

  • Authoritarian. I don’t know what your teacher’s definitions are if this is a class assignment but Thoreau doesn’t write as if he doesn’t know what he is talking about; he writes as if he is positive about what he says. I read some of Thoreau’s essays 50 years ago and they are more appropriate today than they were then. I think I read one on being an American and one on Independence and they changed my life immensely for the better. I would highly encourage anyone to read his writings. He also wrote poetry but I am not as fond of that as I am his prose.
