Which matrix equation represents the system of equations?

2x + 4y + 2 = 0

y = -x + 4

1 Answer

  • 2x + 4y + 2 = 0 =====> 2x + 4y = -2

    y = -x + 4 =========> 1x + 1y = 4

    [2 4] [x] = [-2]

    [1 1] [y] = [4]

    Assume the brackets are each one big giant one. The multiple ‘=’s should be interpreted as one equal sign for the entire matrix equation, not for individual rows.

    EDITED THE ABOVE!!!

    A 2×2 matrix multiplied by a 2×1 matrix yields a 2×1 matrix… not a 1×2 matrix as I had previously written. Sorry about that.
