  • Stay on and continue working for at least 30-45 minutes before taking a time out to go to your shift supervisor to report the problem. From there, offer to stay on until they can get that person in (find out what’s wrong) or get a replacement.

Remember, specifically when it comes to employment applications – it is important to put the company’s needs ahead of your own. If the above mentioned scenario became a regular problem, then I would make a point of suggesting a permanent replacement.

When you work for a company, you enter into an agreement, albeit silent agreement, that you are dedicated to the mission of the organization and if that means a couple hours overtime (money in your pocket – remind your wife/husband of that when you show up late from work and she’s mad because dinner is cold) than that is what it means.

    Good Luck on your App!

  • For the purpose of your job application just put wait a while and if nobody shows up inform your immediate superior and let him take a decision. If he requests you to continue working, request the right to be paid overtime for it.

In the actual job I’ve seen many employees simply check out not caring if the next person has shown up yet. At the hospital I used to work the night shift doctors would show up 1 hour after the previous doctor’s shift was up. This was due to a manger’s decision to have a faulty schedule leaving the service empty for 1 hour every week. It would be silly to force the afternoon shift doctor to work 1 hour extra everytime if this has nothing to do with him or the night shift doctor. We’d simply close the service informing everyone to be patient and wait 1 hour or go to a nearby hospital instead.

In some services managers were expected to cover shifts for their inferiors that didn’t show up.

  • I think the best answer is let the manager know. After that, write what’s the most you would be willing to do if that person never shows. If you’re only willing to stay a couple of hours and they expect you to stay for that person’s entire shift, you probably would want to have the job.

  • What are the store’s policies about working past end of shift. If they have none, the proper answer is to notify your supervisor while continuing to work until the super/manager finds someone else, asks you to work, or tells you to go home.

  • Let the manager know if possible.

You stay until the person who’s supposed to take over from you shows up, and clock out when they arrive.

  • You stay until the person gets there,if they dp not show up for their shift u stay and work their shift.

  • Call your supervisor and continue working until given instructions. Your mgr will realize that you need to go home so they will probably get a fill in. Do not just leave!

  • You wait for him until he comes, if he dosen’t you’re pay is considered overtime and you can report that to the boss

  • Let a manager know and leave. you’re not there to babysit your coworkers. They’re not your responsibility.
